Nairobi, April 22, 2013. God, you must be crazy!  Well, you did send me hundreds of crazy strangers the other day to take part in my fundraising event, the Amazing Motor Hunt. Yes, I say they were crazy because they came out on a cold rainy Easter Monday to drive around Nairobi in search of clues and no real treasure! They are crazy because many of them did this to benefit my medical appeal, yet they are strangers to me! And, yes, we did raise a crazy amount of money, doubling our target!

In my world they may look crazy, but they were simply performing a Random Act of Kindness. A RAK = an act of kindness that is unselfish and done in a random manner for a stranger.

The Amazing Motor Hunt was abundant with hundreds of RAKs but I will highlight my top 5:

RAK #1

Julie Gichuru was invited at the last minute to flag off the Amazing Motor Hunt and she graciously showed up on time and flagged off over 30 cars on that cold rainy morning. She also spent time with my parents and and provided encouragement and financial support for my cancer journey. Julie, you get a RAK star!

RAK #2

The Amazing Motor Hunt organizing team deserve a BIG HUGE RAK star for organizing and coordinating a well-oiled and fun event. The team was led by Kiruu Mbugguss, and supported by Eva Wambui, Catherine Mirti, Kui Kanina, Jackie Saudi, Wanjiku Jik, Ken Mbugguss, Maria Kamau, Nimo Njoroge, Shix Kamuyu, Lisa Mugo, Steve Maikweki and Brenda Selebwa.  This team took time out of their busy professional and personal lives and to meticulously plan and execute this event with precision. Thanks to them the participants had a fantastic time and we met and exceeded our fundraising goal by double!

RAK #3

Judy Oyuyo is a star in her own right. Judy went through a life changing ordeal in 2004 where she broke her neck in a car accident. Judy mentors and ministers to children and volunteers in the community tirelessly. For the Amazing Motor Hunt, Judy reached out to her networks to get raffle and auction prizes donated for the kitty and run around doing countless of errands for the committee. Judy, you are a RAK star!

RAK #4

The great turnout to the Amazing Motor Hunt event could not have been possible without the media support from the Capital FM family, led by DJ CK. Capital FM made a decision to support the event fully and promoted it for free on air and online and as a result we received much needed publicity. #TeamCapitalFM, you are ROCK & RAK STARS!

RAK #5

The Motor Hunt event kicked off at the Valley Arcade Shopping Center. The owner of one of the retail outlets, the Valley Arcade Butchery, was curious about all the buzz and activity and so he approached my dad and asked what the event was all about. After my dad explained, the butcher gave my dad a financial contribution towards the cause! Mr. Butcher-Man, you get a MEATY RAK star from me!
